In these strange times that we are living through it is very important to develop some kind of spiritual practice.

It is important because we as a human race need to reconnect to the sacred. To the sacred within and the sacred without. The state of the world, the environment, reflects our inner state. The outer world shows us what we have not been willing to see. The “de-sacredation”. We have desecrated the world and we have desecrated ourselves. By this I simply mean that we have lost the knowledge of the sacredness of the world and ourselves as human beings.

Our hearts and spirits are in dire need of love and compassion. We need to be kinder. Kinder to ourselves and to each other. This is the demand of the times.

Daily spiritual practice

A spiritual practice can be anything you want it to be. It can be something as simple as lighting a candle each morning or evening and saying Thank you. The gratitude can be directed towards anything you want. To your higher self, to nature, to God in whatever form you connect to. To yourself, for making it through another difficult day. To your friends and family for being there for you.
It can also be as elaborate as you want it to be. You can go to a temple, a church,  a mosque or a synagogue. Whatever rocks for you.
You can practice in private or with others. Use a prayer or a mantra. Just listen to your intuition and do what feels right for you.

My spiritual practice consists of daily meditation and prayer. I meditate each morning and evening. I also try my best to guard my voice, to always speak from the heart. It is not easy sometimes. I am also teaching my eyes to bless everything I see. Reminding myself that everything is sacred. And I try to stay in gratitude as much as I can. When we open our eyes to how dependent we really are on other people it is not difficult to start feeling grateful. Just think about all the people needed to bring you the food you eat every day. It´s multitudes!

Loving compassion

Here is a simple and beautiful prayer taken from the Buddhist tradition. The prayer of Loving compassion:

May all beings be peaceful.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be safe.
May all beings awaken to the light of their true nature.
May all beings be free.

You can use this as a morning prayer and also as a mantra to use throughout the day. Make sure you wish for these things both for yourself and for others. Our first duty is to take care of our own body, spirit and soul. When we do that we are infinitely more capable of taking care of others. We have to hold ourselves to be able to hold others.

With love.
